Petition for Anna Juanita's Law
Anna Juanita Mar’Shay was only 25 when complications after weight loss surgery changed her life and our family forever. After constant vomiting, loss of vital vitamins and minerals, Wernicke syndrome, difficulty walking, multiple hospital visits, and serious complications, we learned how many patients and families are not fully prepared for what can happen after bariatric surgery.
Anna Juanita’s Law is a call for stronger patient education, better follow-up care, earlier testing for vitamin deficiencies like thiamine/B1, and a recognized place for families to report serious complications, disabilities, and deaths connected to bariatric and weight loss surgeries.
